Before I became a “holistic” veterinarian I felt limited and inadequate when treating my patients.

It made me sick to send a dog or cat out the door with a processed, prescription diet. I recall arguing with a manufacturer rep about the presence of ethoxyquin in their food and what I believed to be an association between it and the rise in pet cancer. Repeatedly treating every diagnosis with antibiotics and steroids felt like malpractice.

Using toxic chemicals to clean our clinic never felt right. I have felt a lot of guilt for how I practiced conventionally those first five years out of veterinary school.

My "toolbox" was so limited!
